Description

18th century Scottish binding of red goatskin. Gilt rolled outer frame to covers. Flat spine, with gilt tooling including thistle and Minerva stamps. Gilt tooling to board edges and turn-ins. Marbled endpapers. Bookblock edges in gilt. Green cloth bookmark.

A note in pencil on a front endpaper attributes this binding to "Scott, Edin". This attribution is considered doubtful -- see Loudon, James Scott and William Scott, Bookbinders, 1980, "Imitation 2", page 320.
